Career Prospects
g
Graduating from the GREENANO Erasmus Mundus Joint Master opens clear opportunities in both academic research and the job market, thanks to the programme’s strong scientific foundation, industrial links, and international environment.
PhD and Research Opportunities
The GREENANO curriculum is designed to prepare students for competitive PhD programmes worldwide. Alumni are eligible to apply for doctoral positions in leading institutions such as but not only:
- Institut Jean Lamour (IJL, Université de Lorraine, France) – internationally recognised in materials science and metallurgy.
- LORIA (Lorraine Research Laboratory in Computer Science and its Applications, France) – research in AI, modelling, and digital tools.
- Jožef Stefan Institute (Slovenia) – the largest research institute in Slovenia, active in nanomaterials, energy, and sustainability.
- Centro di Ricerca in Nanoscienze (CRN, Italy) – focused on nanoscience and nanotechnology applications.
Beyond Europe, GREENANO’s strong academic training ensures graduates are also highly competitive for research opportunities in international universities and institutes.
Careers in Industry
The GREENANO Expert Advisory Board connects students directly with companies and R&D centres working on the green and digital transitions. Through internships, mentoring, and networking events, students gain insight into industry needs and career options.
The programme is also labelled by EIT RawMaterials, Europe’s largest innovation community in the raw materials sector, which provides access to a wide network of industrial and technological partners across Europe.
Typical career paths include:
- R&D engineer in nanomaterials, energy storage, semiconductors, or renewable technologies.
- Innovation project manager in high-tech or sustainability sectors.
- Sustainability and materials consultant for industry or public organisations.
- Entrepreneurship in start-ups supported by EIT RawMaterials and partner incubators
Alumni and Networks
- GREENANO is in the process of building its own dedicated Alumni Community, creating a strong network for future graduates. Current students already benefit from:
- The alumni networks of partner universities (Université de Lorraine, Tor Vergata University of Rome, Jozef Stefan International Postgraduate School).
- The Erasmus Mundus Association (EMA), connecting graduates of Erasmus Mundus programmes worldwide.
These networks provide access to career opportunities, mentoring, and peer support across academia, industry, and policy.
Individual Career Support
From the first semester, students benefit from a personalised approach: professors and industrial mentors provide individual career guidance to help align each student’s research and professional projects with their long-term goals. This support continues through internships, thesis placements, and industry mentoring, ensuring a smooth transition to either PhD research or the job market.
