Q: Are students in the last year of Bachelor's studies eligible to apply?

A: Applicants in their final year of Bachelor’s studies are eligible to apply on the condition that they submit their transcripts for all but the last semester and provide a certificate of current enrollment. If accepted, they must submit their final Bachelor’s certificate by 1 July.

Q: Are individuals with a PhD eligible to apply?

A: Yes, individuals with a PhD can apply. However, it's important to consider the specific suitability of the program for each candidate. The program aims to enrich and expand the academic understanding of participants, and its value to a PhD holder will depend on their existing expertise.

Q: Does the Admission Committee evaluate the CGPA of the candidates?

A: Yes, when completing the online application form, the applicants are asked to calculate their CGPA using the suggested conversion tool included in the form. This ensures that all applications are evaluated fairly, regardless of the grading system used in your home country.

Q: What documents are accepted as proof of English language proficiency?

A: For non-English-speaking countries, candidates must submit an internationally recognized English certificate, including IELTS and TOEFL. A full list is available on this webpage. If that is not available, they may submit an official certificate from their home university. This document must include the candidate's English proficiency level and be stamped and signed by a relevant authority (e.g., dean or language department).
Candidates from countries where English is an official language are exempt from providing an English language certificate. However, proficiency will still be assessed during the interview phase.

Q: What constitutes a valid proof of residence for the application?

A: Please be informed that only the applicants selected for enrollment are required to provide valid proof of residence, which is essential for eligibility determination.

The valid proof of residence must include an applicant's full name; precise address (including street name, city, and country) and a date of issuance, which should be within 12 months before the application deadline.

Accepted Issuing Authorities: the document must be issued by an official body, such as a municipality (in line with local registration requirements), an employer, or an educational institution.

All documents should be in English; if originally in another language, a certified English translation must accompany the document.

Unaccepted Documents: personal ID documents (e.g., student cards, national IDs, passports, or driving licenses) or employment certificates listing only a workplace address are not acceptable as proof of residence.

Q: Can I apply with a passport that is about to expire?

A: You can apply with your current passport, but if selected, a copy of your valid passport is required by no later than June. We recommend renewing your passport as soon as possible to avoid any application delays.

Q: What type of translation is accepted for the documents issued in other languages?

A: All documents submitted as part of an application must be either originally issued in English or accompanied by a certified English translation if issued in another language.
Certified translations should be performed by authorized translation services, (for example such as embassy-affiliated translators or public and private agencies authorized in your country). Please ensure that the translations include official seals/stamps, or certificates verifying their authenticity.

Q: What additional documents might be required?

A: Along with the required application documents listed on our website, the Admission Committee may request additional supporting documents if necessary.

Q: How do I submit reference letters for my application?

A: Please note that you may upload the recommendation letters yourself directly in the application portal.

However, please make sure that the official email address of each referee is correctly indicated in your application form. The Selection Committee may contact them directly for confirmation, validation, or any additional questions.

Q: What is included in the EMJM monthly scholarship?

A: The monthly scholarship of 1400 euros is to cover all living and administrative expenses associated with a student’s travelling and living costs. The Consortium provides health insurance coverage for the entire duration of the program (the health insurance certificate is issued within 3 months after the admission confirmation) and covers the costs related to teaching and organization of summer/winter schools.

Q: If I’m selected, what documents will I need to complete my registration at the first host university?
A: You will be asked to provide several documents to finalize your enrollment, including:

- A valid passport

- A student visa or residence permit (for non-EU students)

- Your original academic transcripts and diploma(s)

- Proof of residence in the host country

Each host university may have specific additional requirements, which will be communicated to you in advance.

Q: How can I find accommodation near the university?

A: Each partner university assists enrolled students in finding suitable accommodation. Students will first receive detailed information about 1st-semester housing options from the University of Lorraine in France.
For subsequent semesters, the respective host universities will provide guidance and support in securing local accommodation.

Q: How do I open a bank account upon arrival in France?
A: To open a French bank account, you will need to:

- Choose a bank (your local coordinators will advise on multiple options).

- Prepare the required documents: your passport, proof of enrollment, and proof of residence.

- Visit a local branch or apply online.
Once your application is approved, you’ll receive your account details and a debit card.

Q: Do I need to register with the local authorities after arriving in France?
A: Yes. Non-EU students holding a long-stay visa (VLS-TS) must validate their visa within three months of arrival in France. This process is done online via the OFII (French Office for Immigration and Integration) website.
